PURPOSE: A control apparatus and method for uniform cooling of a hot rolled steel sheet in the width direction are provided to prevent over-cooling of a hot rolled steel sheet by controlling accelerated cooling, thereby preventing non-uniform cooling of the steel sheet in the width direction. CONSTITUTION: A control apparatus and method for uniform cooling of a hot rolled steel sheet in the width direction comprises a laminar flow header(40), a measuring unit(50), and an accelerated cooling controller(100). The laminar flow header comprises a plurality of water filling holes(41) which are formed at regular intervals on the top of a hot rolled steel sheet. The water filling holes, which are formed on the edges of the steel sheet, are formed on a higher position than those that are formed in the center of the steel sheet. The measuring unit obtains information about the entry of the hot rolled steel sheet into the laminar flow header. The accelerated cooling controller controls the amount of cooling water injected into the laminar flow header, corresponding to the entry information of the hot rolled steel sheet obtained by the measuring unit, in order to cool the hot rolled steel sheet uniformly.
