Disclosed is a pharmaceutical composition comprising vitamin B12 and at least one substance selected from the group consisting of N-[8-(2-hydroxybenzoyl) amino ]caprylic acid and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. An acceptable salt is sodium N-[8-(2-hydroxybenzoyl) amino]octanoate. The composition is useful for treating vitamin B12 deficiency in a subject, in particular where the subject has failed to respond to existing vitamin B12 treatment.
