PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling the operation of a blast furnace by stopping air blowing are provided to prevent backflow of melt to a tuyere by maintaining the constant pressure of a blast furnace for a long time. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for controlling the operation of a blast furnace by stopping air blowing comprises an air flow measuring unit(10), a differential pressure measuring unit(20), and a controller(50). The air flow measuring unit measures the air flow rate of a blower which blows air through a blow line connected to the blast furnace. The differential pressure measuring unit measures the differential pressure between the blast pressure of the blast furnace and the blower. The controller determines whether to stop air blowing from the blower based on the measured air flow rate and controls to maintain the internal pressure of the blast furnace. The controller controls the opening and closing for the blow line based on the differential pressure.
