<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly determine a state of a traffic light existing ahead. <P>SOLUTION: When detecting a candidate image supposed to be a lighted red traffic light, a traffic light detector verifies a turned-off traffic light candidate region where an image of a turned-off yellow traffic light and an image of a turned-off blue traffic light exist. When determining that the image of the yellow traffic light which has been turned off and the image of the blue traffic light which has been turned off exist in the turned-off traffic light candidate region, the traffic light detector determines that the candidate image is the image of the red traffic light. By using this method, an erroneous detection of a traffic light existing ahead of a vehicle is prevented and a lighted traffic light is correctly identified. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
