Provided is a bookbinding device capable of processing bookbinding on the basis of the thickness of the actual body of the book. This bookbinding device is provided with: an X-Y actuator (12), with a movement unit that can freely move in two-dimensional directions; a hand unit (14), which is provided on the movement unit of the X-Y actuator (12), and holds the body of the book; a plurality of bookbinding units (16), which carries out each process for the bookbinding; a control unit (18); and a detecting solution (30), which is provided on the hand unit (14), and which detects the thickness of the body of the book being held by the hand unit. A bookbinding unit (16) is provided with an operating element, which conducts bookbinding tasks, and a driving element, which drives the operating element. In the bookbinding unit (16), the control unit, using the driving element determines the positioning of the operating element, on the basis of the thickness detected by the thickness detecting solution (30).
