<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antireflection film having improved contrast and superior abrasion resistance. <P>SOLUTION: This base material with a transparent coating film is composed of a base material and a transparent coating film formed on the base material, and also composed of: (1) a silica-based hollow particle (A) whose average particle diameter (DpA) is in a range of 50 to 200 nm, and whose refraction factor is in a range of 1.10 to 1.35; (2) an inorganic oxide particle (B) which is composed of an inorganic oxide particle (B1) whose spherical coefficient expressed by the following formula (1) is in a range of 0.1 to 0.85, and whose average short diameter (D<SB POS="POST">S</SB>) is in a range of 5 to 130 nm, and/or an inorganic oxide particle (B2) to which an inorganic oxide particle whose average primary particle diameter (DpB2) is in a range of 5 to 130 nm is connected in a chain shape; and (3) a matrix component. The spherical coefficient=(D<SB POS="POST">S</SB>)/(D<SB POS="POST">L</SB>) ....(1).
