The device (10) comprising rigid rod-shaped light guide (1) with end face in which an LED is inserted. A radiation coupling unit is provided in outer circumferential surface area of light guide. The radiation emitted from the LED is irradiated in the light guide in the operating state, and is reflected from radiation coupling unit and passed through light guide laterally from the light guide. The light guide has core region made of multi-component glass containing divalent iron and/or trivalent iron (50 ppm). The illumination profile that corresponds to fluorescent tubes is achieved.
