<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin composition for an optical waveguide facilitating formation of a core pattern with an alkali developer and allowing improvement of productivity by suppressing deterioration of the alkali developer at that time, and an optical waveguide using the same. <P>SOLUTION: A resin composition for an optical waveguide contains an alkali-soluble resin [(A) component] having a special structural unit as a main component and a photoinitiator [(B) component] for curing it. The above (A) component has all the functional groups of a (meth)acryloyl group, a carboxyl group, an epoxy group and a hydroxyl group in one molecule. In an optical waveguide comprising a substrate and a cladding layer formed on the substrate, a core part propagating an optical signal is formed in the above cladding layer.
