<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device which prevents lagging of write-in start timing on a photoreceptor even if there is a change in rotational speed of a rotary polygon mirror. <P>SOLUTION: A light beam scanner includes a first optical sensor which receives a light beam generated from a rotary polygon mirror before the light beam performs write-in start of a latent image to a photoreceptor, and a first optical sensor circuit which forms reference timing for the write-in start based on outputs of the first optical sensor.
