<p>An impact structure is (1) adapted to be arranged in a vehicle (2) to take up an impact load. The impact structure (1) comprises an impact receiving portion (4) and a storage portion (3), wherein the impact structure (1) is movable between two positions, a retracted position and an extended position. When in the extended position, the impact structure (1) is locked in that position by locking means (16, 17, 20) and impact energy absorbing means (16, 17, 20) are adapted to absorb energy under an impact load, over a predetermined value, to allow the impact structure (1) to move from the extended position towards the retracted position under impact energy absorption. Impact load is transferred to the body structure of the vehicle (2) during movement of the impact structure (1) from the extended position towards the retracted position, and when having reached the retracted position said storage portion (3) is adapted to transfer the impact load directly to the body structure of the vehicle (2).</p> |
