<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a muffling device of an internal combustion engine exhibiting superior muffling effect with a simple structure. <P>SOLUTION: The device includes a muffler pipe 18 formed in a cylindrical shape, a partition plate 22 partitioning the inside of the muffler pipe 18 into an upstream chamber 20 and a downstream chamber 21, and an exhaust pipe connected to the muffler pipe 18 and communicating with the upstream chamber 20. At least one of the upstream chamber 20 and the downstream chamber 21 is provided with an expansion pipe 23 having a diameter larger than that of the exhaust pipe and stretched and supported coaxially with an outer pipe 16 of the muffler pipe 18.
