Increasing strength of at least two friction stir welded components connected with each other, at least in the region of welding seam, preferably made of aluminum-lithium alloy, comprises: (a) introducing flaws in a lattice structure region of the welding seam region by ultrasonic-impact-treatment; and (b) heat treating at least the welding seam region such that the flaws are used as nucleation sites for precipitation formation.
