The method involves developing a rod-shaped intermediate product with a surface layer (11) from a stainless steel wire. The surface layer is cold work hardened by a shaping process. The cold work hardened surface layer is formed by pulling-out the stainless steel wire. A diameter of the wire is reduced around approximately 25 percentage by pulling-out the wire. The intermediate product is formed into a drilling tip (6), a screw head (2) and a thread (5) i.e. tapping screw thread, in subsequent steps. The cold work hardened surface layer is smaller than 0.01 mm in a region of the drilling tip. An independent claim is also included for an integrated stainless steel drilling screw comprising a drilling tip.
