The thruster has an alternative/supplementary drive source i.e. electromotor, and a burner (4) connected with an exhaust line (1) of a combustion engine. An off-gas treatment device (2) is arranged in the combustion engine. A heat exchanger (5) is arranged between the off-gas treatment device and the burner. A switching flap (7) is arranged in flow direction of the burner. An electrical propelled compressor (10) is arranged in an air line (9) of the burner. A bypass (6) and the switching flap are arranged in a common housing (8). An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a thruster.
