PURPOSE: A flat panel display device and a driving method thereof are provided to reduce power consumption by switching a power source of a reference gamma voltage generator. CONSTITUTION: A display panel(2) defines intersection pixels of a plurality of gate lines and a plurality of data lines. A timing controller(8) displays an image on a part of the display panel with eight colors. The timing controller displays the image on a remaining part of the display panel with full color. The timing controller creates a color control signal. The timing controller creates a gate control signal and a data control signal. A gate driving part(4) supplies a scan signal to the plurality of gate lines. A reference gamma voltage generator(10) comprises a plurality of digital to analog converters(DACs). The plurality of DACs respectively generates a plurality of reference gamma voltages. A data driving part(6) creates data voltage of the full color and the eight colors.
