<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat-assisted magnetic writing head using a near-field transducer (NFT) having a diffusion barrier layer between the near-field transducer and a magnetic lip. <P>SOLUTION: The heat-assisted magnetic writing head has the near-field transducer, the magnetic lip, and the diffusion barrier layer between the near-field transducer and the magnetic lip. The near-field transducer includes a transparent opening part made of a material such as SiO<SB POS="POST">2</SB>, and an opaque metal antenna formed at a first end of the opening part and made of metal such as Au. The magnetic lip connected to a writing electrode is formed nearby a second end of the opening part, and the diffusion barrier layer is arranged between the magnetic lip and the opening part. The diffusion barrier layer prevents atoms from migrating between the opening part and the magnetic lip to guarantee secure performance under locally high temperature caused by the near-field transducer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
