PURPOSE: A semiconductor memory system using multi-channel and error detecting and correcting method thereof are provided to improve the error detecting and correcting performance. CONSTITUTION: A semiconductor memory system comprises a plurality of semiconductor memory devices, a memory controller which includes an ECC(Error Checking and Correcting) decoder about a normal data programmed in the semiconductor memory device, and a plurality of channels which connects the memory controller to one or more semiconductor memory devices among the plurality of memory devices.
