PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing ethyl linoleate is provided to suppress expression of inflammation expression marker genes and to treat inflammation. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating inflammation contains ethyl linoleate as an active ingredient. The composition suppresses expression of inflammation expression marker genes including COX-2(cyclooxygenase-2), IL-8beta(interleukin 1-beta), iNOS(inducible NO synthase), IL-6(interleukin-6), TNF-alpha(tumor necrosis factor-alpha), NF-kappaB(nuclear factor-kappaB), or IL-12(interleukin-12).
