PURPOSE: A light emitting diode and a light emitting diode package are provided to uniformly a current to a light emitting structure by electrically connecting a first electrode to a first conductive semiconductor layer through a side in a second recess. CONSTITUTION: A light emitting structure(110) having a first recess(192) is formed on a substrate(100). The light emitting structure comprises a first conductive semiconductor layer(112), an active layer(114), and a second conductive semiconductor layer(116). A second recess(194) is formed to be extended from the first recess into the first conductive semiconductor layer. A first electrode(130) is electrically connected the first conductive semiconductor layer through a side in a second recess A second electrode(140) is electrically connected to the second conductive semiconductor layer.
