PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine control device capable of accurately predicting the occurrence of a misfire and switching lean operation over to stoichiometric operation based on the prediction. SOLUTION: The engine control device 1 measures an ignition discharge time T<SB>A</SB>by the ignition plug 11. When the ignition discharge time T<SB>A</SB>cannot be maintained to an ignition discharge time (a time threshold value) required for lean operation and the misfire is predicted, the engine control device 1 immediately switches over to stoichiometric operation.
