Ice-making apparatus comprises an endless belt made up by a plurality of moulds 47 hinged together by pivot-pins 56 and means for twisting the moulds in the upper run of the belt to loosen the ice blocks so that when the belt subsequently reverses its movement the blocks are ejected into a bin 83. Premature ejection of the blocks is prevented by a guard and the moulds are again twisted after reversal to ensure complete ejection. The ends of pivot-pins 56 run in guide grooves 60 (Fig. 3) and 62 (Fig. 4), the latter having a downwardly curved portion 76 for effecting the initial twisting of the moulds. The subsequent twisting is effected by curved portions 84 and 86 in grooves 60 and 62 respectively, said portions being curved in opposite senses to double the amplitude of twisting, and groove 84 is provided with a step 88 for suddenly releasing the twisting when at its maximum. The bin 83 is mounted on a refrigerator door 90 and when in position pivots an arm 92 which tensions a spring (121, Figs. 6 and 7, not shown), to urge a roller (131) mounted on a spring arm (129) into contact with a cam (133) rotated by the motor driving the belt. The spring arm then operates a plunger (127) to close a switch (125) which actuates the motor and movement of the cam causes a feeler arm 135 (Fig. 3) to pivot into and out of the bin 83. When the level of ice in the bin is sufficient to prevent movement of arm 135 the roller is prevented from following the cam so that the spring arm opens the switch to de-energize the drive motor. Water is supplied to the moulds by a pipe 70 under the control of a valve 72 actuated by a beltcontrolled switch. |
