A method and system of engine ignition and monitoring is provided. A combustor includes a casing surrounding a combustion zone and an ignitor plug including a tip, a base, and a body extending therebetween. The body extends through the combustor casing such that the tip is proximate the combustion zone. The ignitor plug is configured to receive ignition energy through the base and generate an ignition source at the tip. The ignitor plug is further configured to sense combustion dynamics in the combustion zone and generate a signal relative to the sensed combustion dynamics. |
