PURPOSE: A method for automatically segmenting a left ventricle is provided to automatically segment the left ventricle by a graph searching and a k-average clustering about an MRI(Magnetic Resonance Imaging). CONSTITUTION: An initial left ventricle region is obtained. Basic left ventricle information is calculated based on the obtained initial left ventricle region. A boundary of a heart is linearized by polar coordinate conversion of a circular heart MRI. A left ventricle region is segmented by applying a k-clustering method based on the brightness of each pixel in a polar coordinate image. A segmentation error is corrected by erasing an excessively segmented region through a graph search based algorithm.
