A secondary battery (100) is provided with a positive electrode collector (221) and a positive electrode mixture layer (223) that is applied over the positive electrode collector (221). The positive electrode mixture layer (223) contains a positive electrode active material (610) and a conductive material (620). The ratio of the volume (Vb) of voids formed within the positive electrode mixture layer (223) relative to the apparent volume (Va) of the positive electrode mixture layer (223), namely Vb/Va satisfies 0.30 = (Vb/Va). In addition, in the pore distribution of differential pore volume relative to pore diameter as determined by mercury intrusion porosimetry, the positive electrode mixture layer (223) has a first peak at a pore diameter D1 that satisfies D1 = 0.25 µm and a second peak at a pore diameter D2 that is larger than the pore diameter D1 of the first peak.
