An image pickup optical system (1) of the present invention is provided with first to fifth lenses (11-15), and a second lens (12) is a meniscus lens, a fifth lens (15) has the convex surface on the object side on an axis, and the concave surface on the image side on the axis, and has one inflection point (PI5) on the outline of the lens cross-section, excluding the position where the center axis intersects the outline. Furthermore, the present invention also discloses an image pickup device and a digital apparatus, which are provided with the image pickup optical system (1). The image pickup optical system (1), the image pickup device and the digital apparatus can excellently correct various aberrations irrespective of an object distance, while having reduced sizes.
