PURPOSE: A shock absorbing device for a road is provided to prevent a secondary accident by gradually and effectively absorbing impact force applied to a vehicle. CONSTITUTION: A shock absorbing device for a road comprises a cover plate(20), support plates(31,32,33), shock absorbing units, and guide units(50). The cover plate is extended from a guardrail(10) of a median strip. The support plates are supported to the cover plate and are separated from each other. The shock absorbing units are installed between the support plates and absorb impact force when the cover plate is deformed. The guide units guide the shock absorbing units so that the shock absorbing units can be moved along the extended direction of the cover plate.
