PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING OF SORBITAN FATTY ACID ESTER

PURPOSE: A method for improving sorbitan fatty acid ester is provided to obtain the ester with low coloration degree without activated charcoal adsorption or bleaching. CONSTITUTION: A method for preparing sorbitan fatty acid ester comprises a reacting sorbitol with fatty acid containing iso fatty acid under the presence of a catalyst system of reducible phosphorus oxygen acid and alkali metal salt. A method for preparing the sorbitan fatty acid ester comprises: a step of reacting 30-40 wt% of sorbitol and 60-70 wt% of fatty acid containing iso fatty acid at 80°C-150°C; a step of removing water from a reactant at 10-250 mmHg of vacuum condition; a step of heating the reactant at 170°C-240°C; a step of cooling the reactant at 60°C-100°C and adding phosphoric acid to precipitate alkali metal salt catalyst; and a step of removing the precipitate.
