<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce constraints on the installation place of a conventional refrigerator which uses ultraviolet rays as a light source of photocatalyst excitation, and is required to install the light source and a filter in a place so that a user cannot see the ultraviolet rays in order to avoid an effect of the ultraviolet rays on the body (eyes and skin). <P>SOLUTION: This refrigerator includes: a compression space provided with a compressor for compressing a refrigerant; a condenser in which the compressed refrigerant radiates heat; a refrigerating machine space provided with a cooler in which the heat radiated refrigerant absorbs heat; a storage having a door; a ventilator for sending cold air of the refrigerating space to the storeroom via an air passage; a filter which carries visible light response type photocatalyst; and the light source for emitting light of a wavelength which excites the visible light response type photocatalyst. The air passage is provided from the back of the ceiling toward the door. The light source is provided on the ceiling of the storeroom. The filter is provided in the vicinity of a blowout hole provided on the door side of the air passage.
