A system is disclosed for providing browser-based VOIP services. The system includes a web server, a database server, a rendezvous server, and a streaming media server. The web server is configured to provide a web page for a user computer and a recipient computer to set up a call connection based on a computer-to-computer (CC) call link sent from the user computer to the recipient computer. The database server is coupled to the web server to provide user data. Further, the rendezvous server is configured to support a real time media flow protocol (RTMFP) to enable direct peer-to-peer communication between the user computer and the recipient computer to establish the call connection. The streaming media server is configured to support a real time messaging protocol (RTMP), an RTMP tunneled (RTMPT), and an RTMP secured (RTMPS) and to be a fail-over for the rendezvous server. Further, the CC call link is created by the web server upon a request from the user computer and sent to the recipient computer.
