<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber having so-called low loss and high relative index difference and an optical fiber bundle capable of efficiently combining light of an illumination light source, light of a high power light source, light of a resin curing UV light source and the like, transmitting them with low loss to irradiate a wide field of view with the combined light. <P>SOLUTION: An inventive optical fiber 10 consists of a hollow glass tube 4 and an optical fiber body 50 arranged in the hollow glass tube 4 and having a glass core 1 that has a circular cross-section through which light propagates and a glass thin layer 2 covering the outer periphery of the glass core 1. The hollow glass tube 4 has a through-hole 5 that has a square a cross section, and the optical fiber body 50 is arranged in the through-hole 5 of the hollow glass tube 4 such that four contact parts 61 to 64 of the optical fiber body 50 are brought into contact with the inner peripheral surface of the hollow glass tube 4. Because of this constitution, four gap parts extending in the longitudinal direction are formed between the optical fiber body 50 and the hollow glass tube 4, except the contact parts 61 to 64. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
