摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for determining effectiveness of a TNF &alpha; inhibitor such as a TNF &alpha; antibody or its antigen binding part for medical treatment of ankylosing spondylitis (AS). <P>SOLUTION: A method for determining effectiveness of a TNF &alpha; inhibitor includes steps of: comparing predetermined levels of a collagen degradation biomarker and/or a synovitis biomarker obtained from an ankylosing spondylitis (AS) patient after medical treatment using a human TNF &alpha; antibody with known standard levels of a collagen degradation biomarker and/or a synovitis biomarker relevant to a clinical condition; and evaluating whether or not levels of the collagen degradation biomarker and/or the synovitis biomarker after the medical treatment of the patient are lower than the known standard levels of the collagen degradation biomarker and/or the synovitis biomarker, and effectiveness of the human TNF &alpha; antibody for the medical treatment of AS is indicated by a fact that the levels of the collagen degradation biomarker and/or the synovitis biomarker obtained from the patient after the medical treatment using the human TNF &alpha; antibody are lower than the known standard levels. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
