<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To mechanically remove and detach a large amount of slips for books being obstructive for polishing top and bottom parts of books, to thereby efficiently perform work. <P>SOLUTION: A slip removing device for books includes a unit vertically moving mechanism 21 vertically moving a unit support bar 28 in which a removing unit 31 equipped with a slip removing piece 35 locked to the slip S for books stuck inside a book B and removing the slip is arranged at its tip end; a unit forward and backward moving mechanism 41 provided to the unit support bar 28 to advance and retreat the removing unit 31 forward and backward along the unit support bar 28; and a removing piece rocking mechanism 45 which rocks the slip removing piece 35 of the removing unit 31 to form a state of being locked to the slip S for books and is provided to the moving unit 31 to detach and remove the slip S for books by being slid upward accompanied with rising of the unit support bar 28.
