<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid deterioration in the processing performance of a host controller when a reading error occurs. <P>SOLUTION: When an alternate processing execution instruction is issued from a host controller 20 due to the occurrence of a disk reading error, a disk device 10 confirms whether data about an error sector specified by the instruction is stored in a cache memory 11C, executes the read-out of the data from the cache memory 11C when the data is stored in the cache memory 11C, and uses the read-out data to write the data back to the an alternate sector. When the data about the error sector specified by the instruction is not stored in the cache memory 11C, the disk device 10 executes the read-out of data from the error sector.
