<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect an AE wave when a crack occurs in a tundish upper nozzle whose temperature becomes high. <P>SOLUTION: In a method for detecting the occurrence of the crack in a tundish upper nozzle of a continuous casting apparatus, when detecting the occurrence of any crack in the tundish upper nozzle which is provided to the bottom part of the tundish of the continuous casting apparatus, and is formed of cylindrical porous refractory bricks, and at least the outer circumferential surface of which is hermetically covered with a metallic cover in a tight contact with an outer surface, one end of an oscillation-transmitting member is connected to the cover, and the other end of the oscillation-transmitting member is connected to an AE sensor, and the amplitude change of the output signal of the AE sensor when the temperature of the tundish is raised is detected thereby. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
