<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent heat generation by using a semiconductor laser element, attain thinning easily, and adjust easily a light volume of a desired area out of light source areas. <P>SOLUTION: When a controlling part 2 performs on/off controls of liquid crystal elements 30-n to 30-1 of each line, a polarization plane of laser beam emitted from semiconductor lasers 10-1 to 10-m is rotated to reflect and guide light to a desired direction by polarization beam splitters 40-n to 40-1. Thus, when the liquid crystal elements and the polarization beam splitters are combined, the laser beam emitted from the semiconductor lasers can be guided to a desired position. By way of adjusting a driving timing of the liquid crystal elements and a driving timing of the semiconductor lasers 10-1 to 10-m, a light volume at a desired position in the plane can be adjusted freely, and by using the semiconductor laser elements, the light volume is adjusted in accordance with average brightness of each part of an image to improve a contrast ratio of the image. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
