<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adapter transporting device preventing an adapter transporting mechanism from gripping an adapter in an unstable state, and improving reliability; and a specimen inspection automating system using the same. <P>SOLUTION: An adapter transporting mechanism 8 is equipped with adapter gripping portions 41a1, 41a2, 41b1, 41b2, and grips an adapter 5 holding a plurality of specimen containers. The adapter transporting mechanism 8 grips the adapter at a certain position and moves that to another position, and then releases the gripping to place the adapter at the position. A positioning portion by a pin 44-1 is inserted in a recessed portion provided on the adapter 5.
