<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated cutting tool having a hard coat layer exhibiting excellent chipping resistance and wear resistance in the high-speed intermittent cutting of steel, cast iron or the like. <P>SOLUTION: The surface-coated cutting tool includes a hard coat layer formed on a surface of a tool body, and comprises a lower layer formed of a Ti-compound layer (lower layer in contact with an upper layer formed of a modified l-TiCN layer) and the upper layer made of an Al<SB POS="POST">2</SB>O<SB POS="POST">3</SB>layer. In the modified l-TiCN layer, a peak of an oxygen content appears within a range of 0.5 to 2.0 μm of a depth on a side inward the modified l-TiCN layer from an interface with the Al<SB POS="POST">2</SB>O<SB POS="POST">3</SB>layer. The oxygen content O<SB POS="POST">MAX</SB>at the peak position has an oxygen concentrated region where O<SB POS="POST">MAX</SB>=3 to 8 atom%. In addition, the Al<SB POS="POST">2</SB>O<SB POS="POST">3</SB>layer is a fine crystal Al<SB POS="POST">2</SB>O<SB POS="POST">3</SB>layer in which a relation of GB<SB POS="POST">L</SB>/G<SB POS="POST">A</SB>=12 to 28 is satisfied where GB<SB POS="POST">L</SB>(μm) denotes the full length of a grain boundary of a measurement, and G<SB POS="POST">A</SB>(μm<SP POS="POST">2</SP>) denotes an area of the measurement region. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
