<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to transmit a signal from a flash device to a camera even while the camera is under a sleep state when the camera and the flash device are connected. <P>SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus system includes a flash device 200a and a camera 100a connected to the flash device. The camera is provided with a standby mode where an imaging operation is possible and a sleep mode where power consumption is smaller than in the standby mode. When shifting the camera from the sleep mode to the standby mode, a flash device microcomputer 100 brings the electrical potential of a connection terminal 110a into a ground level.
