The method involves transmitting messages (PN3 to PN8,AN) by a communication bus (2), and connecting multiple bus subscribers (3 to 8) at the communication bus. The presence message is transmitted from the bus subscriber to the communication bus in its proper operation at predetermined time intervals, by which the operation of the bus subscriber is signaled. An independent claim is also included for a bus system for a household appliance.
