PURPOSE: An image encoding/decoding apparatus and a method thereof for performing intra prediction are provided to generate a prediction image pixel or a block by using a reference pixel which is generated by application of a filter. CONSTITUTION: A prediction mode selection unit(512) decides an optimum prediction mode. A reference pixel configuration unit(516) configures a reference pixel by using a pixel of a target block according to the decided intra prediction mode. The reference pixel configuration unit configures a filtered image as the reference pixel of the intra prediction.
