[Also in Division B3] To prevent unintentional disengagement of a clutch, a toothed clutch element is formed with teeth of reduced thickness and having circumferentially aligned protrusions formed on their flanks by displacing metal from their tips. As described, hub 26 of double dog clutch which comprises an internally splined sleeve 32 slidably engageable with teeth 30, 31 to clutch either of gears 24, 28 to a shaft 23, has a groove 35 cold rolled in the tips of its reduced thickness teeth to form projections (36), Fig. 3 (not shown), in the-teeth flanks. The total thickness of each tooth and its projections (36) is not greater than the normal tooth thickness. The invention may be applied to a single dog clutch, and the internal splines on sleeve 32 may alternatively be formed with the projections. The groove and projections may be formed by swaging.</p> |
