The invention relates to a liquid metal pump for pumping hot liquid metals, like liquid aluminum, which pump comprises:
- a ceramic channel for transporting the liquid metal;
- at least one permanent magnet;
- driving means for driving the at least one permanent magnet along the outside of the ceramic channel in substantially the transport direction of the liquid metal.
