A thermal water storage tank 1 divided into two separate spaces 2, 3 comprises a first upper space 2 above and separated from a second lower space 3 by a partition 6. The upper space contains and supplies domestic hot water (dhw) and the lower space contains and supplies central heating water (i.e. to underfloor heating or radiators). The dhw may be heated by mains water communicating through a first coiled heat exchanger disposed in the lower space. The central heating water may be heated by a heat pump and water communicating through a second coiled heat exchanger disposed in the lower space that has been heated by solar radiation. The first and second heat exchangers 18 may be looped or welded together. Electric heaters 4 may also be provided in both spaces to heat the dhw and central heating water.
