Fibrous material is protected against radio-activity by treatment with an aqueous solution comprising an amino carboxylic acid or salt and a curable epoxy, urea-melamine, polyamido, or phenolic resin. The fabric is then dried and heated at 70-150 DEG C. for 3-15 min. The fibrous material is of cotton, wool, kapok, flax, silk, asbestos, glass, or regenerated cellulose; or vinyl, acrylic, polyamido, polyester, polycarbonate, or polypropylene resin. The amino carboxylic acid is ethylene diamine tetra-acetic or ethylene bisamino diacetic acid. The salt is of sodium, potassium, ammonium, calcium, barium, or aluminium. The solution may also contain boric acid or a zirconium wax emulsion. |
