A permanently magnetic body, e.g. a toroid, is formed by compacting magnetic powder whose particles exhibit a preferred direction of magnetization in an alternating magnetic field. To obtain magnetic orientation in a circumferential direction alternating current is passed through a conductor 5 at the centre of a toroidal die. The compacted particles may be sintered. Materials specified are MFe 12 O 19 , where M is Ba Sr or Pb, and BaCO 0.48 Ti 0.48 Fe 11.04 O 19 . |
