A method and a system for recognizing biometric information in a mobile terminal are provided to enable switching between a visual band and an infrared band by using a camera module including a night vision function, and realize an auto-focus function by obtaining a biometric image in the infrared band, analyzing a frequency component of the image, and placing a lens of the camera module at the highest frequency peak. A camera module(100) reads an image signal from an object and transfers the image signal to an ISP(Image Signal Processor)(200). The ISP constructs a database by converting the image signal into a pattern, analyzes a position of a frequency range of the databased image, and enables a lens of the camera module to focus on the highest peak frequency in the frequency range. The camera module includes an auto-focus lens reading the image signal from the object, and including a visual and infrared band filter, a visual/infrared switch switching the auto-focus lens to the infrared filter for biometric recognition, an image sensor converting the image signal received from the auto-focus lens into an electric signal, and a Bayer pattern part(203). The ISP discriminates a user by using the Bayer pattern part comparing a new input signal with the stored pattern.
