PURPOSE: A method for preparing gamma-amino butyric acid(GABA) using glutamate or glutamic acid as a substrate is provided to ensure effectiveness of GABA without salt. CONSTITUTION: A method for preparing salt-free gamma-amino butyric acid(GABA) comprises: a step of bioconversion of GABA using glutamate or glutamic acid as a substrate and a step of adding water insoluble solid acid. The solid acid is cation exchange resin.
