PURPOSE: A washing machine and a control method thereof are provided to effectively wet the laundry and to save the water by directly spraying the heated water to the laundry. CONSTITUTION: A washing machine is composed of an outer tub(22), an inner tub(21), a circulating pipe(62), a heating unit(70), a spraying unit(34), a circulating pump(76), and a filter unit(36). The inner tub is rotatably arranged in the outer tub. The circulating pipe forms a circulating path so that the discharged water from the outer tub is re-supplied to the inner tub. The heating unit heats the water flowing along the circulating pipe. A spraying unit sprays the water flowing along the circulating pipe into the inner tub. The circulating pump pumps the water flowing along the circulating pipe. The filter unit filters the water flowing along the circulating pipe.
