The device has an absorbing unit (8) e.g. black colored microscopic particles, for absorbing infrared radiation and converting the infrared radiation into heat that is provided to a windscreen (1). The infrared radiation is emitted toward the windscreen. A set of infrared radiation sources (4) i.e. electroluminescent diodes, is arranged on a base (13) of a joint (9) on which a lower edge of the windscreen rests. The joint extends longitudinally over the entire width of the windscreen, and the radiation sources are arranged over the length of the joint.
