The composite has single cells (12) provided with side walls e.g. anode metal sheet (36) and cathode metal sheet (38), made from electrical conductive material. The walls are kept at a distance to each other by an electrically insulating spacer e.g. frame (40), and braced against each other by a tensioning unit e.g. tie rod. The tensioning unit is electrically insulated relative to the walls by an insulating element e.g. tubular projection (46). The insulating element is formed by the spacer, where the spacer comprises sides (48, 50). The spacer is formed as an electrode stack of the cells.
